The Treasurer thinks it would not do to pay the £20 over &amp; above the amount of contract which the Council originally sanctioned, without first getting the consent of Council, but he is quite willing to pay £40 at once, if you will kindly wait till after the 10th inst. [instant] for the balance. I enclose herewith cheque for forty pounds accordingly, &amp; shall be obliged by a memo. [memorandum] of its safe receipt.
