It is a pity he did not notify the Royal Society direct immediately that he had information of the project for nominating him to an appointment at Greenwich; because the announcement in the advertisement of the Mackinnon Studentships that the holder of the physical studentship would offer himself for re-election has no doubt had the effect of discouraging possible candidates from sending in applications. 8 June 1914
