Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to Mr Street, Office of Works, War Office, Pall Mall The inclosed account received in a War Office envelope without cover letter was received this morning and was probably sent to the Royal Society by mistake. The pipe which burst was not the Society's water-service pipe but the fire-service, and the people who did it were not employed by the Society. In neither respects therefore is the Society responsible for the outlay. 2 November 1892
