F. J.] Petersen's paper ['The Necessity for Quantitative Methods in the Investigation of the Animal Life on the Sea Bottom']; its referee advises against accepting it for publication by the Royal Society because it contains nothing that has not already been published, thereby contravening the Royal Society's rules. Informs Dr [Edward Stuart] Russell that this verdict must be accepted, and the paper quietly withdrawn, although no criticism of the paper is implied by this. 17 January 1924
