Copy letter from Herbert Rix, to Messrs Harvey & Gore Rix returns herewith the ivory snuff-box. The arms are not those of Sir Isaac Newton or any other Englishman. Of course the Messrs' clients tradition may nevertheless be true; some foreign servant may have presented it to Newton. If the Messrs can obtain any definite evidence of it having really belonged to Newton the Society are willing to consider the purchase of it. 17 March 1893
