Copy letter from Francis Alexander Towle, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society; to Prof. [Herbert Hall] Turner, FRS Explains the situation regarding the films for the International Congress of Orientalists. States that as both Towle and the Secretaries were on holiday and were not able to read the newspapers. Explains that in their absence, an inexperienced member of staff mistakenly informed the Congress that a certificate of duty exemption would be given as soon as the Customs Officer got back to them, rather than telling them to deal with the Customs Office directly.
