Referee's report by Francis Henry Neville, on a paper 'The structure of Gold leaf, and the absorption spectrum of Gold' by John William Mallet Sectional Committee: Physics and Chemistry Not recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions'. The first part dealing with gold leaf is not sufficiently important for publication. The latter part of the paper dealing with the absorption spectrum of gold, he does not feel qualified to express an opinion on regarding its value, but so far as he can judge it is not worth reproduction with expensive illustrations. Modification of the paper is not discussed. Should it be decided to publish the paper in Proceedings, a good many of the illustrations might be omitted with very little loss. For instance, of the first eleven he thinks figures one or four, and five and seven would suffice. These might be cut down in area so as to form one plate reproduced in half tone without detracting from their value. [Published in Philosophical Transactions A, 1904].
