Not recommended for publication in the 'Proceedings of the Royal Society of London'. The paper contains an extensive discussion and criticism of the work of Bengough, which 'should be thrashed out in private correspondence'. If printed, the references should be condensed and repeptitions removed. The experiments should be grouped together. As the whole paper is controversial, rewriting is recommended.
