Referee's report by Arthur Mannering Tyndall, on a paper 'Ionization, excitation, and chemical reaction in uniform electric fields I - The Townsend coefficient of ionization' by K G Emeléus, R Winstanley Lunt and C A Meek Sectional Committee: Physics Recommended for publication in the 'Proceedings of the Royal Society of London'. This is the first attempt to relate the thoery with experimental data. Some of the assumptions give 'an impression of a lack of finality', but the work 'breaks fresh ground'. Suggests modifying the presentation of the tables. If the authors have the assurance of John Sealy Edward Townsend, this should be made clear.
