Letter from Thomas Gold to Dr Philip Handler, President, National Academy of Sciences, 2101 Constitution Avenue, Washington DC Concerning the plight of eminent scientists in the present wave of suppression of intellectuals in the Soviet Union. Asks if it would be possible to organize meetings that allow contacts between scientist to continue and keep their colleagues there in touch with the rest of the world. Such meetings would have to be in the Soviet Union, as it is impossible for their colleagues to get out. Therefore wonders if some initiative under the joint auspices of the two academies would be in order. 12 November 1973
