Letter from Thomas Gold to Drs K G Widing and K P Dere, E O Hulburt Center for Space research, Naval Research Laboratory, Washington DC Gold has read their preprint of August 10 with great interest. It seems to him to provide a good case for the type of phenomena that are needed to explain a wide range of non-thermal phenomena on the Sun. He is enclosing a reprint of the Nobel Sympsium of 1968 in which some of these points are discussed, such as the need to suppose that triggering occurs even within the same flare. 29 September 1976
