Is glad he did not go to the San Diego meeting - although this deprived him of the pleasure of Lyttleton's company. The organizers annoyed him a little, as first they invited him as a keynote speaker and then acted as if he had foisted himself upon the meeting and they might graciously allow this. What he would have talked about is that solid convection in the mantle is impossible, as there is no way in which a solid from which iron was drained out could become homogenous enough for the slight density differences due to temperature to beat the ones due to composition.
