Gold believes it has several important and possibly urgent applications, such as in the field of earthquake prediction and in the serach for fuels. The publication time is therefore a major concern, and Nature's good record is attractive. Gold realizes that the paper would be a little long for 'Nature'. Davies may be willing to give it special consideration. A modest shortening would be possible, though not without loss of substance.
