Letter from Thomas Gold to Dr Cornell Mayer, Radio Astronomy Branch, Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, DC Telling Dr Mayer what the position of Director of the Arecibo Ionospheric Observatory involves e.g. says that the position involves 'the administrative affairs connected with the operation, both at Arecibo and in Ithaca; the planning of scientific work; and the planning and supervision of technical improvements'. Gold appears to be saying that he would like Dr Mayer to take up the position when John Findlay, the present Director steps down. The letter has been folded in half and marked 'Confidential'. 4 March 1966
