Chemist Theoretical Chemistry Chemistry Education: Grammar School, Pudsey; Imperial College London (BSc); Trinity College, Cambridge (PhD) Career: Assistant Lecturer in Mathematical Physics, Queen's University Belfast (1938); lecturer in theoretical chemistry, University of Cambridge (1949-1972). Memberships: International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science Parents: Samuel Boys and Emily Richardson. Devoted to the methods of obtaining atomic and molecular wave functions and of making calculations using them. He has also been concerned with solving the necessary integrals and with employing high-speed computers. He led the way in obtaining proper calculated wave functions for polyatomic molecules and he has recently devised a new method which allows most successfully for electron correlation. Using this he has calculated the ionisation potential of the neon atom with an error of only 0.05eV.
