Career: Assisted his naval architect uncle, William Froude, in building the first ship test tank; worked as an experimental assistant with John William Strutt (FRS 1873); designed equipment to measure earth tremors caused by railways; tested the structural integrity of St Paul’s Cathedral and several bridges; civilian member of the Ordnance Committee where he addressed problems with ballistics. Parents: Reverend William Mallock and Margaret (née Froude) Mallock, daughter of Archdeacon Froude. Spouse: Helena Maria Caroline Finlay, of Castle Toward (1904). Noted for designing simple but mechanically perfect apparatus. Designed apparatus for measuring the growth of trees. Constructed a machine for ruling diffraction gratings.
