Wine merchant; Botanist Botany Education: Hitchin Career: Partner in firm of Lister and Beck, wine merchants, in the City of London (1846); retired from business (1888) and began his botanical investigations; published his works in Annals of Botany, the Journal of the Linnean Society, and the Proceedings of the Essex Field Club; 'A Monograph of the Mycetozoa', featuring 78 plates produced by his daughter, Gulielma Lister, issued by the Trustees of the British Museum (1894); compiled the British Museum's 'Guide to the British Mycetozoa (1895).
