Memberships: President of the Mathematical Association 1907 Medals/Awards: Gold medal of the Institution of Naval Architects 1901 Gold medal of the Aeronautical Society 1914 Parents: Robert Purdie Bryan, fellow-commoner of Clare College, and Fanny, daughter of George Martell, a surgeon. Spouse: Mabel Williams (1870–1958), headmistress of the Bangor kindergarten school (17 July 1906). Children: Margaret (1909) Known for his expertise in thermodynamics and aeronautics. Credited with developing the modern mathematical treatment of the motion of airplanes in flight as rigid bodies with six degrees of freedom.
