Career: Called to the Bar, Middle Temple (1816), Bencher (1850); pracised on the Western Circuit. Member of Parliament for St Albans (1846-1847) and Boston (1847-1857); Justice of the Peace for Norfolk, Middlesex and Westminster;Deputy Lieutenant of Middlesex (1852); High Sheriff, Norfolk (1854). Benefactor of good causes, including funding the first lifeboat station, Cromer and providing the first 34 foot self-righting lifeboat stationed there and named after him.
