While he qualified as a physician and was a member of the Royal College of Physicians, he did not practice as a physician, in particular during his tenure as Gresham College's professor for music. However, he was regularly consulted by family and peers in regards to medical matters. He did not publish any of his works, some of which exist as papers and manuscripts within the Finch family archive.
