Mathematician Trigonometry Terrestrial magnetism Geometry Mathematics Career: Schoolmaster in Bath; had his first scientfic communications published in the Leeds Correspondent (1817), and the Gentleman's Diary (1819); Mathematical Master at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich (1834); council member of the short-lived Historical Society of Science (1840); edited, with William Rutherford and Stephen Fenwick, the first volume of The Mathematician (1845); had bronchitis for the final six years of his life and died at home following an attack of influenza.
