The family fled to England from Lunel, Montpellier, France, in 1685 following the revocation of the edict of Nantes. Bosanquet was blind until the age of 18. His sight improved until he was middle-aged when he went blind again in one eye and continued to wear a scarf over it. He was one of the leading members of the committee for the London School for the Indigent Blind, founded in 1799. The partners in the Bosanquet, Anderdon & Co bank owned multiple plantations in Nevis [Saint Kitts and Nevis] in the Caribbean, which used enslaved people for labour. Following the Slavery Abolition Act 1833, Bosanquet was awarded over £5,000 compensation for 358 enslaved people on three estates on Nevis.
