He represented Malmesbury in all three Exclusion Parliaments and was added to the committee to investigate pamphlets in defence of Thomas Osborne, earl of Danby, whose impeachment was planned. His correspondence with and contributions to the Royal Society and its meeting show a keen interest in entymology, falconry, and ichthyology.
