He inherited the title from his father after his death in 1643 and inherited family estates in Nottinghamshire, although his rental income decreased under sequestration. Approximately a third of publications focused on law and medicine and his study of physic contributed to his being elected the first Honorary Fellow of the College of Physicians in 1658. Amongst contemporary peers, Pierrepont was allegedly notorious for his temper and fierce loyalty to his family, which resulted in his involvement in multiple duels.
