Physician Physiology Chemistry Education: Wadham College, Oxford (matriculated 1658; BCL 1665; DCL 1670) Career: Fellow of All Souls', Oxford (1660); practised at Bath during the summer season Parents: William Mayow and Elizabeth Mayow Children: John Mayow Through his time at Oxford, he was acquainted with people such as Robert Plot (FRS 1677) and Christopher Wren (FRS 1660) and it was with this group that he shared a common interest in physiology, chemistry, and anatomy. He learnt chemistry under William Wildan and seemed to have assisted Robert Boyle (FRS 1660) and Richard Lower (FRS 1667) in their experiments. He published short works on respiration and rickets in 1668, which were reprinted in 1674 and were widely read in his time. Despite these accomplishments and connections, he was never admitted into the Society after his election and remained inactive in its work.
