Physician; poet Anatomy Botany Education: Jena; Strasbourg Career: Teacher of Anatomy, Chemistry and Botany at Jena; Professor of Medicine at Heidelberg (1679); Personal Physician to the Margrave of Baden, the Duke of Wurtemberg and the Archbishop of Trier; moved to Copenhagen; Personal Physician to the King of Denmark Memberships: Deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina (1672) Frankenau was well-known for his poetry at a relatively young age and is said to have composed works in German, Latin, Greek, and Hebrew. His medical work and treatises were well-received in aristocratic circles. In 1693, Frankenau and his son had to accompany the Elector of Saxony on his campaign against France and were heavily affected by the spread of infectious diseases amongst the troops. He published numerous medical and anatomical works and is in some circles most remembers for his text 'De ovis paschalibus' (1682), in which he is the first to mention the spreading idea of the Easter Bunny in the Protestant areas of Alsace and the Palatinate. He was never in the Royal Society lists after his election and was inactive in its work.
