Antiquary; politician Antiquities Education: Middle Temple (admitted 1651) Career: Commissioner for Assessment for Staffordshire (1661-1680), for Warwickshire (1673-1680), and for Staffordshire and Warwickshire (1689-1690); Deputy-Lieutenant of Staffordshire (1662-1687, 1689-death),and for Warwickshire (1686-1687); MP for Stafford (1673-1674, 1678-1679, 1685, 1690-1693); rebuilt the church at Ingestre to a design supplied by Sir Christopher Wren (FRS 1663) (1676); Sheriff of Staffordshire (1684-1685) Parents: Walter Chetwynd and Francis Hesilrige Married: Anne Bagot Chetwynd assisted Robert Plot (FRS 1677) in the production of his 'Natural History of Staffordshire'. Chetwynd himself also worked on a short survey of Staffordshire in 1679 and later went on to collecting material. His collections were kept at Ingestre Hall until it was destroyed by a fire in 1882. He was not particularly active in the Royal Society's work after his election.
