Career: Apprenticed to Hugh Norris, Surgeon of Taunton (1835); completed his apprenticeship with a doctor in Newbury (1842); Medical Assistant in London (1842-1850); studied and became an authority of Foraminifera and Entomos traca; Professor of Geology, Royal Military and Staff Colleges, Sandhurst (1862); retired (1880) Memberships: FGS; Academy of National Sciences of Philadelphia (Corresponding); Geol Reichsanstalt. Parents: John Jones, silk merchant, and Rhoda Burberry of Coventry Spouse: 1) Mary, daughter of William Harris of Charing, Kent; 2) Charlotte Ashburnham, daughter of Archibald Archer Children: Two sons and three daughters from first marriage and two sons and three daughters from his second marriage.
