Career: Obtained a commission in the 8th Native Bengal Cavalry (1846); attached to the 78th Highlanders at the relief of Lucknow; accompanied John Hanning Speke on his exploration in Africa (1861-1863); in Lord Napier's Abyssinian expedition (1868); retired at rank of Lieutenant Colonel (1868).
