Merchant Career: Quaker; Amanuensis to George Fox; accompanied Fox to London and then to North Germany and Holland, with William Penn (FRS 1681) (1677-1678); after his marriage, became a wealthy merchant; died of a fever. Parents: Thomas Haistwell of Orton County, Westmoreland Spouse: Rachel Marsh, daughter of Richard Marsh, Merchant, of London Children: Edward Haistwell Royal Society roles: Council: 1705 Haistwell, categorised as a member with potential interest but not actively contributing to natural knowledge advancement, was elected to the Council in 1705, despite infrequent attendance. His possible increased responsibilities due to his father-in-law's death in 1704 might explain his attendance record. However, Lyons notes that an average of nine members attended Council meetings during 1701-1729. Despite not being re-elected, Haistwell's ongoing interest is evident from his 1708 donation of two rattan canes to the Society.
