Physician; Author Medicine Mathematics Theology Education: Marischal College, Aberdeen (1688–9); Edinburgh (MD 1701) Career: Tutor to John Ker, afterwards 1st Duke of Roxburghe (FRS 1707); practised in Edinburgh, then in London (1701) and later in Bath (1720); he became enormously overweight and ill-health led him to become a vegetarian; he wrote several books advocating vegetarianism.
