Metallurgist and ironmaster Education: Broombank School, Sheffield; private tuition, he was trained in metallurgy, mining, and chemistry (under Dr James Allan) Career: Succeeded his father as Ironmaster, Wortley forges Iron Works (1871); practised as a consulting metallurgical engineer and metallurgical chemist. Memberships: FRSE; FCS; AICE Awards/Medals: Telford medal of the Institution of Engineers 1884 Gold medal of the Society of Engineers 1902 Parents: Thomas Andrews, ironmaster, and Mary Bolsover. Spouse: (m. 7 September 1870 ) Mary Heannah, daughter of Charles Stanley of Rotherham, oil manufacturer. Children: Three sons (two died in childhood) and a daughter. Recognised as one of the country's leading metallurgical experts in his day.
