Physician Education: Trinity College, Cambridge (admitted 1645; matriculated 1646; BA 1650; MA 1653) Career: Fellow of Trinity (1650); Physician to the British troops in Dunkirk (1660) Very little is known about Pockley's personal life or as a medical professional, although it was in his service to the British troops at Dunkirk that he contracted 'squinancy' [a disease of the throat] and soon after passed away. He is therefore not considered an original Fellow of the Royal Society, a classification reserved for those named in the second charter of the Society granted in 1663, or elected within the following two month period stipulated therein for the declaration of Fellows. I.e the original Fellows are only those who were officially declared at the meetings of 20 May 1663 and 22 June 1663, elections like Pockley's that predated these meetings were no longer recognised.
