James Brookes, 2nd Baronet Brooke was considered an active MP for the second Exclusion Parliament and amongst others, he was assigned to the committee to inquire into abhorring and to repeal the Elizabethan statute against nonconformists. He considered a suspect involved in the Rye House Plot, a plan to asssassinate Charles II and the Duke of York. Subsequently, his house was searched and he was disarmed.
