As secretary in the East India Company, from April 1701, he journeyed to Aurangazib's camp in the Deccan, entering the Mogul's camp at Parnella on 28 April 1701, carrying letters from his Majesty. Departing for England in September 1702, he transported a cargo valued at 147, 000 rupees, with 50, 000 rupees blonging to the Company and 87, 000 to his brother. Following an illness caused by the hardships of the journey, he resumed the profession of medicine at Utkinton.
