Honours: OBE 1918; CBE 1920 Memberships: Faraday Society (President 1928–30) Chemical Society (VP 1922–4) Oil and Colour Chemists' Association (VP 1925–8) Parents: Edward Pearce Lowry, Methodist minister, and Jemima Hofland. Spouse: Eliza, eldest daughter of a Methodist minister, Cornelius Wood (1904). Children: Two sons and one daughter. Founding member and President of the Faraday Society. Remembered for the Brønsted–Lowry acid–base theory.
