Indian ship builder and Engineer First Indian to have been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society Career: Joined his father at the dockyards, being described as especially interested in steam engines. launched a 60-ton ship of his own design called the 'Indus' (1833). His house and gardens at Mazgaon lit using gas lighting, in the presence of the Governor of Bombay (10 March 1834).
