Honours: Kt 1943 Membershps: Salters' Institute of Industrial Chemistry (Director 1949–59). Parents: Sir Alfred Mordaunt Egerton, comptroller to the duke of Connaught, and Mary Georgina Ormsby-Gore, elder daughter of the second Baron Harlech. Spouse: Ruth Julia, daughter of Sir C. A. Cripps, afterwards Lord Parmoor (1912). Studied combustion; propagation of flames; and pioneered the use of liquid methane.
