Creator | Armstrong; William George (1810 - 1900); Baron Armstrong of Cragside; armaments manufacturer and industrialist |
Date | 24 April 1891 |
Description | Acknowledges receipt of previous correspondence. Fails to understand why greater quantity in a secondary circuit should be obtained by an alternating current arrangement rather than by a contact breaker. Supposes a Ruhmkorff coil is nothing more in principle than a transformer acting in inverted order of an ordinary transformer, and that the huge potential of the secondary current is the equivalent of the greater quantity of the secondary current, detailing his reasoning. Opines that the available secondary current should be in one direction, explaining why. |
