TitleLetter from [Alan Archibald Campbell] Swinton, to Mr [Edmund Edward] Fournier d'Albe
CreatorSwinton; Alan Archibald Campbell (1863-1930); British electrical engineer
Date14 February 1921
DescriptionRefers to their experiments of that morning and the previous ones he made with Mr MacCarthy's optophone, he is sure that, with experiment, considerably better results could be obtained than what they have so far. The amplifier he used is one made for wireless telegraphy, and he has no doubt that the makers of such instruments could produce something more suitable for the special purpose Fourner d'Albe has in mind. For this reason, he suggested to Messrs Barr & Stroud that they should get in touch with some manufacturer of amplifiers, and suggested Messrs. H. W. Sullivan, whose electrical manager, Mr Josephs, woud thoroughly understand the problem. States that great attention is being directed to the use of amplifiers for long distance telephony, naming companies focusing on designing amplifiers specially suited for telephony. Discusses the design of the transformers connecting the valves of an amplifier.
