Title | Letter from [Alan Archibald Campbell] Swinton, to Mr. F. Hope-Jones [Esquire] |
Creator | Swinton; Alan Archibald Campbell (1863-1930); British electrical engineer |
Date | 2 April 1928 |
Description | Acknowledges receipt of a previous letter and apologises for the delayed response. States he would lie to wait and see the article in Nature, which will appear soon, and informs he will ask Sir Richard Gregory how soon it is coming out. Comments that the whole matter would have been much more satisfactory has it turned out that the Free Pendulum was an entirely new idea which originated with Mr. Shortt and Hope-Jones seem undoubtedly to have brought out the first really successful clock embodying this principle, the fact that the idea of the thing was not new but had been suggested, and even manufactured, by others who did not make a real success of it, is bound to considerably affect those who have the giving of awards for new inventions. |
