Title | Letter from [Alan Archibald Campbell] Swinton, to James Taylor [Esquire], Trinity College, Cambridge |
Creator | Swinton; Alan Archibald Campbell (1863-1930); British electrical engineer |
Date | 7 May 1928 |
Description | Expresses great interest in Taylor's letter on "The Disappearance of Gasses into Glass under Action of the Electric Discharge", published in Nature, commenting he did some work on the same subject twenty years ago. It has therefore occurred to him to enclose two of his papers on the matter, as they might interest Taylor. Comments that they did get Helium to penetrate glass in considerable quantities, and furthermore, subsequently got it out by powdering the glass. Adds that they found connection between the absorption by glass of gasses with the fatigue of the glass to fluorescence. |
