| Description | Kölliker aims to elucidate the manner of action on the animal organism of a sample of Antiaris toxicaria. He describes a series of experiments on frogs, and shares observations on their symptoms after having been introduced to the poison. He observes that the poison 'acts from the intestinal canal, and from wounds; but it must be remarked, that it is much more energetic and rapid when introduced into a wound'. He concludes that the Antiar is a paralysing poison, acting with great rapidity and affecting the muscular fibre.
