Description | The paper contains an abstract of the scientific results of an inquiry which Smith undertook for the Government into the exact dietary of large groups of the community, including agricultural labourers, cotton operatives, silk-weavers, needlewomen, shoemakers, stocking-weavers, and kidglovers. The inquiry extends to every county in England, to North and South Wales and Anglesey, to the West and North of Ireland, and to the West, North, and part of the South of Scotland. Includes printed tables showing the total weekly quantities of a variety of foods and substances consumed by families in counties across England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
Preceded by a covering letter dated 27 April 1864.
