Understanding the evolution of the great diversity of animals is a major goal of bilogy. This venerable field of research found a new lease of life in the last years of the 20th century thanks in great measure to the application of molecular genetic techniques to systematics and comparativwe development biology.
This two day symposium, held at the Royal Society and co-sponsored by the Linnean Society of London and the Systematics Association, will bring together internationally renowned experts from a diversity of disciplines capable of integrating traditional comparative anatomy, systematics and paaeontology, with modern molecular biology, developmental genetic, and molecular phylogenetics in order to address many fo the major unsolved questions of animal evolution. The meeting forms part of the celebration of the 300th birthday of Linnaeus.
