TitleLetter from E [Edwin] Ray Lankester, British Museum, Cromwell Road, to the Secretary of the Joint Antarctic Finance Committee [?Alfred Bray Kempe], the Royal Society

RecipientKempe; Sir; Alfred Bray (1849-1922)
Date6 December 1905
DescriptionIn order to prepare the results from the National Antarctic Expedition for publication, the trustees of the British Museum have obtained specialist assistance to work on various parts of the collections. In most cases, these men are offering their services for free, but the Museum has recieved a few requests for payment and requests for assistance with purchasing scientific apparatus and out of pocket expenses. As the trustees have no funds for the payment of such expenses, the letter appeals to the Joint Antarctic Finance Committee for £250.

NotesRegarding the recipient of this letter, Cyril Longhurst was the secretary of the Joint Antarctic Finance Committee, but he was based at 1 Savile Row and not at the Royal Society. Alfred Bray Kempe was a member of the Committee, and a reply in the New Letter Books [see NLB/32/66] confirms that Kempe received the letter and presented it to the Committee.
