TitleLetter from J L [Joseph Larmor] to Sir C [Clements Robert] Markham
CreatorLarmor; Sir Joseph (1857-1942); Irish theoretical physicist
RecipientMarkham; Sir; Clements Robert (1830-1916); President of the Royal Geographical Society
Date28 April 1903
DescriptionLarmor will present Markham's letter [see CD/115/1] about the Antarctic relief ship to the [Royal Society] Council at their next meeting on 30 April. The [Antarctic] Committee's opinion is that it would be 'unwise to approach the Government on a problematical issue' without more definite information. A relief ship would not need to be dispatched until the Autumn, and the despatches are due to arrive in the next few weeks. 'I imagine the matter can quite well be pressed in the Government in due time before Whitsuntide, if the despatches arrive on May 16'.
