| Description | Explains that for some years, British anthropologists have been looking for ways and means of having anthropological investigations carried out 'amongst the native tribes of Uganda and British East Africa'. Explains that they want this to be done by Reverend John Roscoe, who has been living with tribes in Uganda for 25 years and is the leading authority on their laws, customs, beliefs, traditions, art and manufactures. Notes that now Sir James G. Frazer has informed Sir Athur Keith that Mr Peter [Jeffrey] Mackie is willing to give £1500 to the Royal Society if they will use that sum to do this anthropological investigation. Asks how to proceed with this 'somewhat urgent' matter, and asks Hardy to inform the President of the Royal Society. Thinks that it should not be postponed until the end of the War. |
