Description ' The Physical Sciences Research Committee, consulted by correspondence in May 1955, agreed to recommend to Council;
a. That the following announcement inviting applications fro the Mackinnon Research Studentship be published in 'Nature':
' The President adn Council of the Royal Society invite applications for a Mackinnon Reserch Studentship for the purpose of furthering original research in the physical sciences including chemistry, geophysics, astronomy and engineering sciences.
The appointment, which will dte from 1 january 1956, or from such later date as may be agreedm, is for two years in the first instance, but may be renewed for such periods as Council may determine. The stipend will be £550 per annum with superannuation benefits, to which the successful candidate will be required to contribute a sum equivalent to 10% of the annuual stipend.
Applictions should be made on forms to be obtained from the Assistant Secretary, The Royal Society, Burlington House, London, W1, and should be received not laer than 10 October 1955. '

b. That the above announcement also be circulated to the Heads of the Departments of Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Geodesy and Geophysics and Astronomy in the Universities of the United Kingdom, University Observatories, and various Government Departments. '
