2186 The General conference

Recognizing the valuable work of the Intergovernmental Oceanogrphic Commission,

Noting that the Director General gives high priority to this work in the Draft Medium-Term Outline Plan (17C/4), but

Regretting the relatively inadequate provision made for IOC in the 1973/74 bienniun in the Draft Programme and Budget (17C/5), and

Noting also that the UN Conference on the Human Environment identified the IOC as the major organisation for the co-ordination of activities in the field of marine pollution monitoring,

Requests the Dirctor General to examine ways of ensuring that the resources made available from UNESCO to the IOC are commensurate with the importance and magnitude of its increasing tasks. '
